I’m performing at Queer Rebels Fest Again!

Hi everyone.

I hope you had a safe Pride. I hope you are taking care of yourself as you mourn Orlando, mourn Istanbul.

I’m very much looking forward to sharing a space with the great people at Queer Rebels. They’re a wonderful organization that promotes the work and love and art of Queer POC performers.

There is a ton of info below, but if you want to come to the night I’m Performing, buy tickets for July 1rst. That is the one I’m going to be at. Hope to see some of you there.

love, Baruch Porras Hernandez.

Fierce drag queens dance off the Google buses of San Francisco. Black and Asian communities join forces in the struggle for racial justice, instigated by the LA Riots, Rodney King’s beating, and Tian Sheng Yu’s death in Oakland. A Two-spirit artist journeys in gender to find home within the self. Black Lives Matter, stretching now and into infinity with Afrofuturism. Home is displacement, a transtastic Hà Nội music video/ visual poem on the 40th anniversary of the Việt Nam War. For a Chican@ transgender teen in LA, what is home but a haunting? In Vietnamese, the word “nước” means water, country, nation, and homeland. To ask “nước nào?” is to ask, “Where is your country? Where is your home?”

Mission of Queer Rebels: Founded in late 2008 by artists KB Boyce and Celeste Chan, Queer Rebels showcases queer/trans artists of color, connects generations, and honors our histories with art for the future.

You Guys Gotta Go See This Show!

Who wants to go with me? I’ve known this young poet performer for a while now, and he always brings it, delivers, and kills it not only with great writing, insight, intelligence, and my favorite, he’s hella funny. Also that poster is hella cute. I’m going to go see his show, who wants to come with me?  June 16th through the 18th at Galería de la Raza.

Nationally acclaimed poet and spoken-word artist Yosimar Reyes expands his repertoire to include a full-length solo performance. Prieto is an autobiographical one-man show that follows Yosimar’s journey growing up queer and undocumented in the hoods of Eastside San Jose. While his grandmother and grandfather recycle bottles and cans to pay for the rent, the boys on his block constantly tease him for acting like a girl. As a young boy, Yosimar struggles to understand and wrap his head around manhood, until he wraps his mouth around it.
