Do you remember the first time you fell in love with a poem? That poem that you read over and over again when you were 14 and brought it to school and put it in your locker? The poet that made you actually go to to library and read everything there was to read about that poet? Then you rented Dead Poet Society and it was all over! Haha, well we decided to have everyone read the poet they fist fell in love with and bring a whole bunch of homos together for 3 incredible nights of poetry in San Francisco!
I’ve been working with the head organizer for GuyWriters, James J. Siegel for some time now, our mission, support gay poets. We had a blast putting together readings in the Castro a year or so ago titled PinotandPoetry and now we’re teaming up again, to bring San Francisco something really special, MY FIRST LOVE! It is going to be an incredible 3 day poetry and open mic festival featuring incredible writers from all over the queer spectrum, multi racial and multi generational, we got it all folks! From published authors to emerging young poets, reading their work, and most importantly a poem by the first writer that made them fall in love with poetry! I invite you all to come, not just cause all shows are free, not just cause you can sign up to read your own work, not just cause James and I will be your damn sexy hosts, but because going to a poetry show can be the holiest thing you’ll do all month, and you won’t want to miss author, musician, activist Kevin Simmonds, the incredible writer, performer Wonder Dave, all the way from Washington D.C. the legendary Regie Cabico, Oakland Grandslam Champion and head organizer of the New Shit Show Sam Sax, the ferocious Ben McCoy, storyteller and spoken word artist Blythe Baldwin(also my fucking awesome co-host for the San Francisco Queer Open Mic) blogger, writer, performer Amy Dentata, writer performer Cam Awkward Rich, author Greg Pond, with the powerful Joshua Merchant and the lovely Nicholas Vortex Chin.
